Baking Soda & Water for PH balance. Test Your Alkalinity
Have you heard that an alkaline body is more resistant to disease and sickness? How would you even test your ph? Easy, you just purchase some ph strips on a roll and lick it. You get the results immediately. Optimal results is between 6.5 and 7.5 according to the testing package.
The cells of your body work best when they are slightly alkaline, about pH 7.32-7.36. What helps your cells become more alkaline is a diet rich in potassium and magnesium, and low in sodium. Why? Your cells’ power stations, the mitochondria, have evolved over millions of years to use potassium in a multi-step energy production system.
I tested myself 45 minutes after a little vegan chocolate chip eating episode and as you can clearly see I was very much acidic (in the yellow). I mixed 1 heaping teaspoon of baking soda and about 6-7 ounces of filtered water. I chugged it and oh yuck I feel like I could vomit immediately it’s just so nasty to me and made gross out sounds and belching a lot. Not nearly as delicious as candy or sugary items. I was telling my oldest son Laken just how nasty the drink is and he said I’ll do it and make no reactions. Well, he was right he said he actually likes the taste of it! That’s hard core. That shows that different people have very different taste palates.
Wine, sugar, meat and excessive exercise can make you acidic as well. What are you doing to counter that if you are not eating large amounts of green veggies.
Foods that are considered acidic generally have a pH level of 4.6 or lower.
Foods that tend to cause more acidity in the body and that you may want to limit or avoid include (4Trusted Source):
- certain dairy producs including cheese
- fish and seafood
- high-sodium processed foods
- fresh meats and processed meats, such as corned beef and turkey
- certain starchy foods, such as brown rice, oat flakes, or granola
- carbonated beverages, such as soda, seltzer, or spritzers
- high protein foods and supplements with animal protein
Research supporting the connection between foods like animal protein and chronic disease due to a change in the body’s pH is limited.
New research may shed more light on this connection or expose other reasons why reducing animal products is beneficial for health.
I recently read a book that spoke of a cancer doctor having patients do a protocol of baking soda and water for several times a day for several weeks and trying to achieve an 8+ alkaline hold for 2 days to kill the cancer. Maybe you don’t have cancer but have other ailments or stay acidic and need to get back to base. It may be worth consideration if you haven’t tried this type of natural medicine. Here’s a pic and link to some strips below. You can also get these in most pharmacies.
Sorry for the scary close up pics. Clearly, I don’t care if I don’t look the most attractive in these pics because as I am typing this I am thinking it’s for the better good of you guys to see the content and not how pretty I look. Really, who looks amazing this close up 🙂 Anyway, check out the first ph test strip. This is before I placed on my tongue to test. The second pic you can see I’m acidic. The Pic with the green strip is about 5 minutes after I drink the baking soda and water concoction. Yuck, but effective as you can see from the green strip! My stomach feels more balanced as well post medicinal drink and I’m certainly not reaching for more sugar. The kids joined in on the testing as well.
