Time to Rest & Set If Then…Reward Goals
As the new year approaches it can be a time of renewal to yourself and your habits. Take the last week of the year to be kind to yourself physically and mentally in preparation for next year. A client that I trained for many years had heard a saying and passed it on to me. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! How to you run a marathon? One mile at a time.
For the new year try something my husband just learned was called bundling better known as the “If, Then” principle. I am queen of the If, then as it’s pretty much the parenting style of how I grew up with my mother.
See a few examples below.
If I go on an afternoon walk, then I can watch television after dinner.
If I do cardio intervals today, then I can have a drink (this doesn’t have to be alcohol, it can be juice, cocoa or latte).
If I don’t have any sweets for 5 days in a row, then I can have one on the 6th day and with no guilt.
If I do a 3rd set on my weight training day, then I can have pizza that day.
If I do weight training 2 days each week for 3 weeks, then I will purchase a new workout shirt.
If I have a protein shake within 30 minutes post every workout, then I will schedule a massage.
If I have worked out for the day, then I can do social media for max of 45 minutes.
If I have had at least 70 ounces of water for 5 days, then I will have …….(you pick, you get the idea)
Pick some things that you know you need to change so you can get on track with results.
By doing the If, then principle you can stop beating yourself up emotionally for continually failing to do what you say you are going to as far as fitness and wellness goes. Eliminate the guilt as if serves you no purpose as does not having goals or a plan for long term good health.
Speaking of the If, then principle and how I was raised let me share with you a tea towel I recently saw that reminded me of my mother’s saying about guilt. Her saying was “If I wanted to travel, I wouldn’t take a guilt trip!” I like this one much better and pretty much sums up what I think about excuses, procrastination, etc. Anyone that knows me might agree.
the pity train has just derailed at the corner of suck it up & move on,
and crashed into we all have problems,
before coming to a stop at the
get the hell over it!
