Tips to Prioritize Your Workouts
- Prep Your Week Ahead
- On Sundays, review your schedule and plan your workouts, meals, and recovery activities. Setting clear intentions for the week eliminates excuses.
- Lay Out Your Clothes the Night Before
- Eliminate decision-making in the morning and set yourself up for a no-excuses start. This simple habit can mentally prepare you for your session and save you time. Go a step further and lay out what you will wear for the day to save time. Now this may change but at least you have a plan.
- Prep Your Before and After Workout Meals
- Plan ahead by having you BCAA’s ready to take before your workout preferably on an empty stomach. If you are trying to lose weight or get nauseated have a few grapes or a bite of an apple before your morning workouts. Post-workout, replenish with a balanced meal that includes protein and carbs to help your body recover and build strength. We usually encourage protein shakes with some greens powder and L-Glutamine powder if needed, mixed with water or dairy free beverage & electrolytes. Limit the fruit in the shake if you are trying to shed some pounds. Chew your fruit later. If you happen to have earned a banana then be sure to have with a small bit of fat like nut butter to lower the glycemic index of this fruit. If you are taking your supplements with your shake and you have a fat soluble vitamin then taking with a bite of fat helps it be absorbed better in the body.
- Incorporate Movement Throughout the Day
- If your schedule is packed, find ways to add extra activity, such as taking the stairs, parking farther away, or doing short stretches at your desk.
- Find Accountability
- Share your goals with friends or family to keep you motivated. Better yet, rely on your personal trainer to hold you accountable and provide encouragement when you need it most. Be positive to yourself. One client said he has on his calendar for his sessions with us “Fatman workout”. We said change it to “Buffman workout”.
- Celebrate Small Wins
