What is Reiki and Why Is It Important to Your Overall Health and Wellness?

We are thrilled to welcome to the Energy Fitness staff Catherine Boroughs, a Reiki Master, Personal Trainer and Intuitive healing practitioner. She is originally from San Diego, CA. We are excited once again to have a Reiki Master at our facility. Tonya was Reiki Level 2 certified by our former one in Memphis and believes in it’s healing powers.

Not only does Catherine specialize in intuitive healing, she loves helping clients uncover and fully resolve the root causes of their issues. She recently joined our Personal Training Staff Team. Tonya got her up to speed quickly on our Energy Fitness method. She loves to practice yoga personally and peppers in some great stretches when her personal training clients need at the end of their semi-private sessions. She plans to become a yoga teacher soon, further enhancing our healing arts service offerings.

At Energy Fitness, our mission is to inspire optimal health and wellness with our personal training and nutrition services with our proven Energize Method. We use empowerment, education and coaching in a safe and non-intimidating environment. We evolved many years ago to include more mindfulness and whole self-alignment.

What is Reiki:

Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan. The “Reiki” is made of two kanji that translate to “universal spirit” and “energy”, which when combined give us the meaning “universal life force energy”. The “ki” in reiki is the same as the “qi” in Qigong. Practitioners are viewed as conduits of this universal life force energy and use it to perform any healing that takes place. People receiving reiki will commonly report feeling a slight heat, a tingling feeling, or other sensations during the sessions. These are all normal and are signs that the reiki is working! The practitioner may also experience some different sensations during the sessions and will share those with you after the session is over.”

  9. You will lie fully clothed on one of our therapy tables in a private massage therapy room. You will be face up first and then likely face down or side lying if you need. You will have your shoes off.
  10. The practitioner will ask you to set an intention for your healing and you will discuss what you might be struggling with in your life (past or present).
  11. The practitioner will stand close to you and either place their hands hovering above or lightly touching different areas like face, throat, top of head, feet, etc. A certain order typically applies and more focus can be on an area as the practitioner feels the need or at your request. Some pracitioners may use crystals to aid in your experience. Your practitioner is merely a vessel for healing and some may refer to it as “laying on of hands”. Reiki is not a religion nor is it vodoo or hodoo as some might refer to it sometimes. Those that are open to experiencing healing with this type of service may even feel calmer and more relaxed afterwords.
