From Beast Mode to Balance: Tonya’s Evolution in Massage Therapy

Let’s take a moment to revisit the evolution of my massage therapy technique. Once upon a time, Tonya 5.0 operated in full beast mode—deep tissue intensity that tackled knots with the kind of force you’d expect from a linebacker. But here’s the thing: not every client was looking for a UFC-style takedown on the massage table.

After some honest feedback (and a lot of reflection), I realized it was time for a change. Enter Tonya 2.0—a massage therapy style that focuses on healing without the hurt. A lot more “how’s that pressure?”, reading of body language and communication that has to go both ways. Let’s face it why would you schedule a “pain” session when Americans are thought to think of massage as a luxury and spa like. Keep in mind some clients say don’t back off on them. Several I have done 5.0 massages have come in for the 2.0 Tonya and are leaving happy little bees buzzing around feeling all good and loose.

The Shift: From Bruises to Balance

Now, every session blends strength with mindfulness, tailored to your specific needs. Whether you’re managing chronic pain, recovering from an injury, or battling desk posture, you’ll experience a results-driven massage without the bruises or battle scars. My goal? Help your body heal and thrive in a way that feels restorative and empowering. Things I now say to myself during your session…no need to fix you all in one session, less can be more, wait for them to ask for more pressure if needed, look at your breathing rate and if you flinch!
