“Is Your Work Environment Supporting Your Health and Well-being?”
Is Your Work Environment Healthy?
Have you considered how much of your life is spent at your job? Whether your role is simply an occupation or a true passion, it’s worth examining if your work environment supports your health and well-being. Given how much time we dedicate to our careers, a mindfulness check can help determine if your workplace aligns with your wellness goals.
At Energy Fitness, we recently welcomed Neely to our team as a new admin/support staff member. In fact she started the week before Hurricane Helene. She came from a corporate environment where stress and a relentless work ethic had caused her to overlook her own health. With our mission to inspire optimal health and wellness, we wanted to ensure Neely’s onboarding included a fitness consultation and assessment—just like we do with our clients. This gave her insight into our process and the support we provide to those looking to make positive lifestyle changes. We picked her a strength training program to do at her own gym as she likes to keep work and fitness compartmentalized.
When discussing YOUR health and wellness goals, it’s essential to consider personal motivation, goals, and available resources like time and budget. Building a lifestyle that includes weightlifting, cardio, stretching, balanced nutrition, quality sleep, and mental wellness habits can be challenging. That’s why small, sustainable habits make such a big difference.
Simple practices like packing your meals the night before.
Using dedicated glass containers that measure proper serving sizes is an easy way to avoid overeating. They have limited space, so you can only fit in a set amount while still keeping the lid closed! When it’s time to eat the next day, you’ll have to stick with what you packed rather than giving in to momentary cravings. This can be eye-opening—you may start to notice how often you’ve relied on your taste buds to dictate your choices or given in to unhealthy habits.
Packing meals ahead of time ensures you have a balanced mix of veggies, protein, and healthy fats, supporting your commitment to nutritious eating.
Sticking to a schedule of dedicated exercise days brings a mix of experiences. Some days, you’ll feel great and be glad you pushed yourself; other days, you might have to dredge through it, but you’ll still feel rewarded by making progress. Consistency is key, and each workout contributes to your forward momentum.
Using pill organizers for supplements can also help you stay on track. Filling them each week is like checking off a to-do list for your health. Keep them in a convenient spot, like with your lunch tote, or near your drinking glasses and plates, so they’re visible and easy to access. For fat-soluble vitamins like Vitamin D, make sure to take them with a small amount of fat, such as a sliver of avocado, some nut butter, or a few nuts. If you take zinc you will want to take with food to avoid feeling nauseated.
As our new team member Neely continues her journey toward better health, you may share a similar goal: to feel better, look better, and regain control over your well-being. Many people find that it’s easy to give advice to others but much harder to implement those same practices in their own lives. By prioritizing self-care and establishing positive routines, you can set yourself up for success now and in the future. Remember, the more you commit to movement and self-care, the more rewarding and enjoyable life can become, both inside and outside the workplace.
