What is Reiki Therapy? Drew explains via short video
As a boutique personal training studio located Downtown Memphis since 2002 we started offering Healing Arts services starting in 2017 to offer even more of a holistic approach to optimizing health. We have two healing arts practitioners that can help you with something that has gained more popularity in the past few years. Have you heard of Reiki Therapy? Is it right for you?
We asked Drew, Licensed Massage Therapist/Reiki Practitioner to do a short video about this healing modality so you can be in the know.
Additional information on What Is Reiki?
Most recipients report feelings of stress reduction, pain reduction, relaxation, calm mind, and a feeling of peace. It can promote healing. Reiki recipients often fall asleep during a session. Don’t worry though, you will still receive all of the benefits of the session, sleeping or awake. Reiki may release emotional blockages, accelerate natural healing, balance subtle bodies energies and support other medical modalities including traditional therapies.
What happens during a Reiki treatment?
During a session, the patient is usually lying down or sitting comfortable and remains clothed (unless of course you are also getting a massage by a licensed massage therapist which will use part of your session for Reiki therapy). The practitioner’s hands are placed near or lightly touching various parts of the body, including areas around the head, shoulders, stomach, legs and feet allowing the Reiki energy to flow. The practitioner doesn’t have magical powers; however is allowing their attuned hands and intuition to be a channel for the energy.
Reiki practitioners receive a reiki attunement. This has been described by many practitioners as a powerful spiritual experience, as your energetic pathways are opened by a Reiki Master. This energetic opening allows the reiki energy to flow freely through your body to impact your health and the health of others. There are 3 levels. Reiki 1, Reiki 2 (includes the ability to do distant healing), Reiki 3 which is Reiki Master and gives the ability to train and attune other Reiki practitioners. Reiki practitioners can and should perform Reiki self healing on a regular basis.
A typical session of Reiki lasts anywhere from ten minutes with the typical session lasting 60 minutes and in some cases 90 minutes depending upon available time.
Reiki Practitioner Licensure: Many private Reiki education companies teach this healing art and offer a Reiki certification or license of their own however; this is not regulated. In most states, however, no license or certification is required to practice Reiki.
I, Tonya (Owner/Dir. of Training of Energy Fitness) have been attuned as a Reiki Level 2 practitioner so write this blog post article with knowledge and experience. Our Reiki Master,Diana Sullivan attuned me to Reiki Levl 1 and some time later after a private Kundalini Yoga session was attuned to Reiki Level 2. I mostly use for myself, family and friends with the occasional session for my personal training clients.
