It’s About to Be Short Sleeves Season – 3 Tricep Exercises

If you haven’t been hibernating this winter and working on keeping or getting tone and defined muscles in your upper arms it’s not too late! Here are a few of my favorite tricep exercise to keep the back of your arms from turning into granny flabby arms. You can try for the sets and reps suggested or go for more time under tension and hold at the hardest point for 2-5 seconds.

Triceps Overhead Extension- try for 1-3 sets of 10-12 reps or 1 set of 15 reps, 1 set of 10 reps heavier, 1 set of 25 reps.

This exercise is a great one for not only strengthening and toning your triceps but also providing a great stretch for your shoulder complex and lats (Lats are huge muscles located near back of your armpit for layman terms).

Tricep French Press – try for 1-3 sets of 10-12 reps

Tricep Dips using chair – try for 1-3 sets of 10-20 reps

So many clients when they first start training with Energy Fitness perform this exercise wrong. Have you done this exercise? Do you tend to go down too far? We aren’t trying to overstretch or work the front of the deltoids which is you do if you go to deep in this movement. You are simply trying to hinge at the elbows in a flexion and extension movement. Keep the elbows pressed in and shoulders pressed away from the ears an shoulder blades back in your pockets. If you have wrist issues you may wish to turn your fingers away from your body or attempt on your knuckles or even push up handles.
