Keeping Your Hips Open is Crucial Especially As We Age

Keeping your hips open is crucial for reducing lower back pain and maintaining a healthy gait, preventing it from turning into a waddle or limp. Incorporating these two stretches into your daily routine can make a significant difference.

1. Triangle Pose:
This stretch, which can also be used as an exercise, targets the inner thigh, improves balance, and stretches the muscles near the hip bone, obliques, and intercostal muscles.

2. Standing Modified Childs Pose Hip Sway:
Using a stability ball or even the edge of your bed when you first wake up, this stretch helps loosen the hips and improve mobility.

Both stretches can be done either stationary (holding the position) or dynamically (moving). For stationary stretches, aim to hold the position for 30-60 seconds or longer for maximum benefit. If performing them dynamically, try 10-15 reps in each direction.
