Do You Know About The 8 Colors of Fitness? What Color Are YOU?
Do you love quizzes too? One called The 8 Colors of Fitness was brought to my attention during a continuing education course I’m taking in fitness. I took it and it’s spot on and very insightful which is why I am bringing it to your attention. Even if you don’t do anything with the information it provides it may be helpful to recognize the personality traits in yourself or others.
The Colors are as follows: Blue, Gold, White, Purple, Green, Red, Saffron and Silver
Take the quiz here: The 8 Colors of Fitness
The creator of the quiz is Suzanne Brue.
From her website The 8 Colors of Fitness:
She is a researcher, writer, and consultant on the connection between personality and physical exercise. Her career began as a college counselor and faculty member at Trinity College and The University of Vermont. Inspired by her students, she developed an interest in the study of personality and individual differences and became a student of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) and then a Master Practitioner®. Suzanne, an avid swimmer with an interest in fitness noticed that people are far more likely to succeed with exercise when the activity and environment matched their innate personality tendencies inspiring her to launch a six-year research project, interviewing hundreds of fit and physically active individuals from the full range of MBTI® personality types. From this research, she developed a revolutionary fitness personality system: The 8 Colors of Fitness. In 2008 she wrote, The 8 Colors of Fitness: Discover Your Color-Coded Fitness Personality and Create an Exercise Program You’ll Never Quit, followed by the 2015 publication of The 8 Colors of Fitness: Your Workbook, and in 2018, The 8 Colors of Fitness, Your Guidebook.
There is a tab on the website for Coaches and Trainers which would be helpful if we had all our clients take and give us their color of fitness. Send us your results if you are a current or past client. We are always trying to be better coaches and part of our mission is to inspire and educate.
The tab for coaches and trainers for example states that some people don’t work well in gym settings and prefer to be outdoors for sure. Greens don’t like to talk while Silver’s don’t mind as long as it makes sense.
There’s a great tab labeled Barriers & Tips in which she lists what they are and how to overcome them.
I’m a Gold which seems to be accurate based on what was said in the quiz and on this website. Here’s my Gold barriers: not scheduling an activity in advance, safety concerns, lacking clear goals for physical activity and disruption of routine or plan. This becomes ever more clear when I travel and my routine is disrupted. I have lots of questions before I go. If I’m to stay in an air-bnb is the area safe for running (crime / animals / well marked street signs / traffic / sidewalks)? Does the hotel have a decent gym? Does the hotel have a bath for my nighttime soaks for recovery? What is the family activity schedule and does it interfere with my workout time?
Another section for me is that is says “Golds enjoy public recognition, and will respond well to displays of their achievements (pictures, certificates, ribbon, medals, member of the month, etc.). Encourage them to also reward them-selves as they reach milestones.” This is probably why it is frustrating for me to see a whole generation (my kids) that received and still does participation awards just for merely showing up. Kind of takes away from the people that actually did the hard work to earn a trophy or award.
Knowing your fitness color can be very validating as to maybe why you have or have not had success with a fitness program. You may not even do anything with the information other than it just being insightful information for you or maybe you see some of the various color traits in other people you may not and want to inspire to nudge to get moving.
